In Las Palmas for the ARC2006

Well I was scheduled to arrive in LP today but I actually made it in in the wee hours of the night on Monday. I'm checked in, paid up with the marina and the diesel tank is full. Let the circus begin. Last night was the Rolnautic Welcome Fiesta and somehow I managed to get drunk. I woke up this morning with a splitting headache and could not face doing a drop of work till 2 in the afternoon. I plead naive exuberance due to the close proximity of fellow sailors. I didn't buy a drink all night long.

I think my sun spun state has something to do with the appalling error I made today while going over the boats safety equipment. As readers of this site probably know well, I am a dreadful speller. Well, I topped myself today by actually misspelling the name of the boat on my life ring and life jackets. What a plonker.

Arc shenanigans look like they could consume more of my time with a dinner for short handed sailors tomorrow night, drinks at the Real Club Nautico on Saturday and a fancy dress ball next Wednesday. Meanwhile I am going to try and get my head down and do some work. I've got a safety check on Friday, and planned seminars well into next week, for provisioning, sextant work, weather and route planning to name a few. Yup it's a circus. The boat is dressed in code flags from bow to stern and I am the proud owner of a blue logo festooned briefcase and yet more reams of information and bumf. Talisker even gave all 200 skippers a little bottle of scotch. Hey you've got to try and get as much in as you can for the £600 entry fee. :-P
