Timanfaya National Park

I don't have the exact dates but around about 1700 Lanzarote experience a lot of heavy volcanic activity. As a result a lot of its landscape is littered with the raw outpouring of lava and volcanic ash. All the Canaries exhibit their volcanic past but none more dramatically than Lanzarote. The Timanfaya park is at the epicentre of the volcanic activity which took place for about 30 years at the beginning of the 18th Century. An awe inspiring scenery to be sure but it was somewhat marred for me by the obligatory bus journey through the desolate landscape complete with Spanish, English, German and French commentary. The best and corniest part had to be the accompanying music which was designed to elevate and lift the emotions. I was just trying to avoid glare from the bus windows.
