self portrait on deck

Leaving Puerto de la Luz, Las Palmas

Well after 5 weeks in Las Palmas I made my escape. Strange feeling really. The ETA on the GPS reads 16:36 tomorrow for Valle Gran Rey, Gomera. A pot of potatoes is on and the chicken is waiting in the pan. I am nursing a beer, or more to the point playing a game of table hockey with the glass as the boat pitches back and forth in 1.5m of swell. I am sad to say goodbye to Flo, Christine and Martin. Strange being on my own again.

The 3 miles out of the Anchorage was tough. Not used to a boat pitching all over the place. It took me 1 1/2 hours to get the sail up, the dinghy stowed on deck and the fenders down bellow. The worst job was taking off the sail cover!

Once under way with spinnaker pole out I was visited by a pod of Dolphins. As much as they seem to love playing around the boat I just can't seem to take a decent picture of them, thus the self portrait on deck. Sorry.

And that my friends is the close of another day on, tonight, the sad ship Compromise. Feeling the loneliness of being on my own . . . It's one am and I am 25 miles off Tenereffe doing 6 knots under full sail. Thinking about what I've left behind. Ahhh life. It's not perfect.
