. . . the briney swell indeed. Now I am in the Canaries I've found the cruising community again. It's day two and I've already been socialising with people off of 3 boats + another introduction to 2 more. I've swapped books with a Seattle couple and borrowed/traded DVD's with my next door neighbour an English couple in a Fantastic Swedish boat. Yup, no doubt about it the folks in this place are the real thing.
It's blowing a hooly out there and I just managed to miss a huricain by a week. Ricky and I had an uncomfortable night in Funchal Harbour Marina but over here all manor of mahem was breaking loose. Boats came free of their docks. Wind speeds were recorded over the 100 km mark. In boat speak I heard wind speeds were as high as 87 knots. I'm tied up next to a dismasted sloop. Things are definately kind of funky here in Caleto de Sebo, Graciosa. I am on an Island just north of Lanzarote. For the first time I feel like I can relax since leaving Sicily. I've escaped the Northern Winter. Umm it's just a litte windy. The shot above shows the effects of 45 knots of wind making it's way through the marina. It doesn't look that bad does it! It's strong gale force wind's here on the 11th of December but I'm in shorts and I'm happy.
