Life on board Compromise

On leaving Playa Talamanca,(Ibiza) I headed for Formentere. Anchored off a tiny little cove and swam about the place starkers. The sail out had been choppy on the Ibiza side and sailing around Formentere looked like it was going to deliver more of the same on her south eastern point the next day. Change of plan: the wind could take me all the way back to Ibiza in 3 hours. Badella here I come. Had another Badella experience and then continued on over the next two days hopping into San Antonio and St. Eulalia, completing a circumnavigation of Ibiza. Mallorca next. Wind forecast was perfect for the 60 nautical mile hop from Ibiza to Mellorca. First I had to refuel. What a mistake! Managed to catch the stern line on disembarkation and the boat pivoted around the tied off cleat, twisting the wind generator, damaging the taff rail and finally ripping the cleat from the deck. The deck thank God was spared any damage. Not to be delayed I headed off! It was a beautiful sail but on the last approach I was confronted with 20 knot gusts on the nose and failing light. I headed for open water and drifted off the coast after trying to find a suitable anchorage in the lee of the Island. Eventually, after a somewhat uneasy night I motored into Andraitx, a safe harbour, crowded but easily negotiated in daylight, and as it turned out my new home for a week.
