A Sudden Departure

Today was the day Dave departed company with me. It was an abrupt departure. I said goodby to him on the steam train at 10:30 in the morning not 12 hours after coming to the realisation we were not going to make it. We just didn't have enough time to sail to Lisbon together. I put up the code flags - D - H - 1st - in honor of my departing crewmate. The code flags actually refer to the letters DHD, the initials for one of Dave's nick names, Daft Hat Dave. Dave was a good crewmate. I will miss him. Now I am back on the crew recruitment program. At least in the short term I am again sailing solo for the last 4 ports along the south coast of England. Next stop Salcombe, Plymouth, Foey, and finally Falmouth. Plans for an ocean passage seem to be quickly disappearing. Next stop France? As is proving true with sailing and the sea plans are apt to change.
